Salacious Phrase is a four-month program led by Hard Soft Press, an imprint of Butter & Filth. It’s built to change how stories are told, and who gets to tell them.
Hard Soft Press was founded from my desire to change how knowledge is “permitted” to exist in publishing. Salacious Phrase is a program dedicated to the full process of guided authorship within Hard Soft Press. You’ll be published at the end of the program.

I have women in my inbox and in my circles in class talking about some major shit. I got one that is an expert on shrimp and can speak on them like a poet. One talks about how kink saved her live. Another has stories about the acid trips she takes with her husband on weekends and what she has learned about herself through them. Another one has been in recovery for 8 years and has stories on how drugs ruined her life. I have had a student shutter in fear over realizing that she’s actually pretty great and now she has to go on with her life knowing she isn’t a loser, and that she actually has immense potential. I had one suffer domestic violence and has come out the other side. One of them experienced weight loss and is navigating her new body. One of them is a poet who write about farts and indigestion. I have a client who is a big wig in the non-profit world who has some seriously wild bedroom stories that are a page turner, but she needs a pen name to get it all out. The list is endless. I want to make sure we’re on the same page. Salacious Phrase will not be a traditional “book writing” program. I am not an authority on book writing. I am an authority on walking women through a creative process, where at the end, they are able to hold in their hands a truthful moment in time that they arrive at through creative expression.
For this program, you and I are teaming up together to buck the system of authorship . We’re fucking it up, flipping it on its head, and redefining what a book can even look like or be. We are going to take traditional publishing and command it in a different way by taking it into our own hands.

How long is the program and when is it?
4 months long. August-November 2026. Program held locally in Richmond, Va.
Do I need to be a writer to be in the program?
Absolutely not. In fact, I the program is designed specifically to pull a book out of a “normal” person. I use the same methods I use in the Butter & Filth classroom. So if you’ve worked with me in pole and achieved more than you ever thought you would, the same thing will happen here.
What’s included in the program?
You’ll end the program with a fully executed book written from start to finish, including cover art, comps, editing, interior layout, author headshot, graphics and 4 published copies (you can order more if you want). You’ll get the guidance of Nia Burks, MFA and creator of Butter & Filth, her 16 years of academic and artistic experience, as well as support from 3 other team members.
